Cedarwood Essential Oil .5oz Overview:

Aroma:
Mild, sweet-balsamic, 'pencil wood' scent
Parts Used: Timber waste, sawdust, shavings, etc

Traditional Use: Famed cedars of Biblical times (Lebanon cedar) provided one of the world's earliest perfumes. Used by the ancient Egyptians for mummification.

Extensively as a fixative in perfumery- particularly in soap making. It is frequently used as the only active perfume ingredient in room sprays, disinfectants, insecticides, cleansers, and other industrial products, household products, etc.

Of Interest: Cedarwood was the first known oil to have been extracted. Noah burned cedarwood incense in thanks for surviving the flood. Tibetans burn cedarwood incense in the temples. Other ancient cultures used cedarwood for sarcophagi and palace and temple building material.

The Native Americans used it for respiratory infections, especially those involving an excess of catarrh. Decoctions of leaves, bark, twigs and fruit were used to treat a variety of ailments: menstrual delay, rheumatism, arthritis, skin rashes, venereal warts, gonorrhea, pyelitis and kidney infections.

Safety Data: Externally the oil is relatively non-toxic; it can cause acute local irritation and possible sensitization in some. Use in dilution only with care, in moderation. Avoid during pregnancy. Generally safer to use than Atlas cedarwood.

If applying an essential oil to your skin always perform a small patch test to an insensitive part of the body (after you have properly diluted the oil in an appropriate carrier).
